Our Services

Practical support across tax, accounting, and business.

From annual compliance through to structuring, superannuation, and business advice, we provide a broad general practice for companies, small businesses, and private clients, with specialist referrals where they serve you better.

Who we work with

Owner-managed businesses, and the families behind them.

Most of our work is with owner-managed businesses, and we look after both sides of the picture: the business itself, and the family tax matters behind it. Our clients range from sole traders and health practices through to engineering firms, manufacturers, lawyers, and stockbrokers.

Health and professional practices

Allied health, medical, legal, and consulting practices, run on clean, current numbers. In practice that means bookkeeping, payroll and Single Touch Payroll that stay up to date, with the tax work built on top of them.

Switching accountants or systems

Moving to us, or onto Xero, handled for you. Most of the work sits with us, not with you: we deal with your previous accountant for the file, and a Xero setup or migration is a job we do rather than a project you run.

Scope

What we do, and what we bring in.

Walch In Practice is a broad general practice: taxation, accounting, Xero and payroll, corporate and ASIC compliance, SMSF administration, business advisory, estate and succession, and portfolio administration. Three things sit deliberately outside it, and each has a licensed or independent specialist attached to it.

Financial product advice is licensed activity and it is not something the practice is licensed for. Where financial product advice is required, we work alongside appropriately licensed financial advisers, and we stay responsible for the accounting and tax consequences of what you decide.

Audits are carried out by external auditors, because independence rules mean the practice that prepares a set of accounts does not audit them. We arrange and manage the engagement, prepare the file, and run the process. The same principle applies to lending and to insolvency: we prepare lender-ready information and introduce licensed finance brokers or registered liquidators, and we stay involved as your first point of contact rather than handing you off.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Where are you, and do you work with clients outside Brighton?

The office is Suite 1, 307 Bay Street, Brighton VIC 3186, open Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm and Friday, 9am to 4pm, a short drive from Hampton, Sandringham, Elsternwick and Caulfield. We work with owner-managed businesses across Melbourne, in person or remotely through Xero and secure file sharing, so where you are is rarely the deciding factor.

Are you chartered accountants?

Walch In Practice is a Melbourne-based chartered accounting practice, established in 1999. Greg Walch is a Chartered Accountant and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. The practice is also a Xero Partner.

Can you look after the business and our personal tax together?

Yes, and that is how most of our clients use us. We look after both sides of the picture: the business itself, and the family tax matters behind it, which means the two are planned together rather than reconciled after the fact.

Do you advise on investments or superannuation strategy?

Not the product side. Financial product advice is licensed activity and it is not something the practice is licensed for. Where financial product advice is required, we work alongside appropriately licensed financial advisers. The accounting, the tax treatment and the compliance around whatever you decide are ours.

Can you take over from our current accountant?

Yes. Moving to us is handled for you, and most of the work sits with us rather than with you: we request the file from your previous accountant and pick up the compliance calendar from where it stands. If a move onto Xero makes sense at the same time, that is a job we do rather than a project you run.

How do we start, and what does the first conversation cost?

Initial conversations are obligation free. Call the office on 03 9642 1633, email hello@walchinpractice.com.au, book a time that suits you, or send an enquiry through the contact page and we will call you back, usually within one business day.

Who does the work
